I know the older generation rolls their eyes at how much our kids use technology such as the iPad and other tablets (trust me, my dad voiced his displeasure plenty during his recent visit), but having had our iPad since my now 4-year-old daughter was 18 months old, I have seen it work as a great learning tool for her. With our recent acquisition of Dora “Let’s Play Backpack!” by Duo Games, her opportunities for learning and building her problem solving skills continue.

You will need to download the “Let’s Play Backpack” app from the iTunes store – it’s free! After you download, you need to set up the backpack as instructed in the manual (see photo above). The premise of the game is simple – choose the correct answer and put your chip on that color. If your answer is correct, after you click on the correct color the backpack will open and your chip will fall in. If you choose incorrectly, it won’t and you can take your chip back. You can play with two players, too! You will want to see who has the fewest chips left at the end of the game.
Here’s a quick video synopsis of the game featuring my lovely assistant, Violet:
My daughter already has a number of Dora apps for her iPad, so this is right in keeping with what she loves and right in keeping with her current learning abilities. It addresses matching, listening skills, logic, and Spanish language tailored specifically to little learners. It works with all iPad models, which is great because we are living in the stone age with our first generation iPad!
This game retails for $39.99 on Amazon and at other retailers.
