We don’t eat out too often, and when we do we are pretty set in our ways and eat at the same places over and over again. However, we’ve passed Mooyah several times as we have dined at our favorite local sushi establishment and I’ve been curious about what they offer. So, when they reached out to me to try their turkey burgers I jumped at the chance.
We decided to dine in on Mother’s Day. Rather than battle the crowds at other sit-down restaurants, we figured this might be a easier, and we were right.
As you enter, you’re greeted with a large overhead menu with their burger types, bun types, add-ons, fries, and milkshakes. The menu isn’t overwhelming, and the options are simple: Beef burgers (single or double), turkey burgers, black bean burgers, or hot dogs.
After you choose your burger type, you pick your bun from white, wheat, or iceberg lettuce (“Ice burger”). You can also make your burger Mooyah style, which has American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions and Mooyah sauce. If you’d rather decorate your burger your way, you can load it for free with various sauces or toppings (bacon, avocado and cheeses are at an additional cost).
Want fries? They’ve got fries! Choose from regular hand cut french fries, or the most amazing sweet potato fries in the world (that’s not what they’re called, but they should be!). They’ve also got ten different milkshake flavors to choose from, and, if you’re just not in the mood for a burger and got dragged along with friends, they have a few salads to choose from.
I’ve been working hard on losing weight, so the turkey ice burger was my burger of choice. I love that they have a “healthy” option for those of us who still want to enjoy a good burger and a fun time out with friends. I added pepperjack cheese, relish, tomatoes and mushrooms. I was skeptical about eating it with the iceberg lettuce wrap, but it was perfectly crispy and didn’t fall apart as I tried to eat it. My husband had a double burger Mooyah size, and my daughter had the little burger kids meal (truly, it wasn’t all that little!) topped off with a mint chocolate chip milkshake.
But the best part of it all were those sweet potato fries. I’m not sure what their secret is. I think they sprinkle cinnamon on them, but I also tasted some honey! I finally had to get a box to put the rest in or else I would have gorged myself. Fortunately, sweet potato fries are pretty healthy and diet-approved!
I went in to check out the turkey burgers, and yes – they are awesome. I will absolutely go back and order another one as an Ice Burger. It hit the spot and as someone watching the foods I eat, it fit perfectly with my diet. I am most looking forward, however, to returning and having more of those sweet potato fries!
