The iPad is a mom’s lifesaver

This is not a sponsored post by any means. This is simply my praise for the gadget.

We’re currently on vacation staying at my brother’s house. To say his cable is craptastic would be a compliment. The only channel he has that offers programming for children is the Cartoon Network (and PBS). I’m not too big on most of the shows on the Cartoon Network besides Curious George, so I’d prefer she just doesn’t watch it at all.

Thankfully we brought our iPad along with us (and my iPod touch). Before we left, I downloaded a number of episodes of Spongebob, Dora, Diego, Yo Gabba Gabba, Wonder Pets and Sesame Street. She also has 20 or so learning games on them including spelling, counting, coloring and her favorite, Talking Tom Cat.

Violet, at 23 months, has been playing with the iPad since she was 18 months, and the iPod touch since she was 15 months. She is far more proficient with it than most people I know, and knows exactly where all of her games are and how to not only find her TV shows, but turn them on and select which one she wants to watch. Whoever said that the iPad and iPod Touch were adult toys never met Violet.

I’m anti-portable DVD players. It annoys me to no end when my in-laws bring one over to grandma’s house when they visit with their children. Isn’t the point of going to see grandma to go see grandma? That’s why we won’t own one. Now that we have the iPad, it’s perfect for long car trips, and to entertain her when she can’t watch anything that is on cable. It also pacifies her when we want to watch sports and she wants to watch “Bob Bob”.

The only downfall? The iPad is MINE, and I never get to use it!

Awesome to see someone so young using the iPad and getting enjoyment out of it. I’d love to own one.

I can’t believe who techno smart even little ones can be. I think it’s that they still have no fear and don’t worry if they do this or that, that they’ll lose something or erase it. I think it gives them a great learning edge ability that some of us adults don’t have anymore.
