The Denver Cat Company makes for purrfect fun

It’s no secret I love cats. I. Love. Cats. We have 3 cats. They’re my kids. They’re awesome. And I love other people’s cats, and cats that belong to no one. All of our cats have belonged to no one, they’ve come from shelters. I feel very strongly about adopting shelter pets. When I read that Denver was going to be home to a cat cafe, a place where folks can hang out with shelter cats up for adoption while having coffee, tea, etc, reading, or just playing, I was so excited!

The Denver Cat Company opened in December, 2014, and is one of only a handful in the country. It’s located in the heart of the Tennyson area of Denver at 3929 Tennyson St. They serve coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and an assortment of bottled beverages. Due to health department regulations, no food can be prepared on site, but there is prepackaged food available for purchase. The cafe is open Tuesday thru Sunday, and on weekends there is a $5 cover charge. You are able to stay as long as you wish, Teller Street Gallery offers various painting workshops a few times weekly, all with a cat theme.

The cafe is full of books to browse, knick knacks to purchase, cat related artwork on the walls, and plenty of comfy chairs to relax in. Children are allowed, but are not allowed to hold/carry cats, and must be well-behaved.

My daughter and I FINALLY checked out Denver Cat Company this weekend. I have been meaning to for so long, but we all know how time gets away from us! I am SO glad we finally did, and we will absolutely head back because we both enjoyed ourselves.

My daughter had fun playing with the laser pointer and toy wands, and I enjoyed just sitting back with some coffee watching the cats snooze, play and snuggle. There are plenty of toys for you to use while playing with the kitties!

All of the cats at Denver Cat Company are adoptable through For the Love of Paws shelter, and 38 cats have been adopted in the 5 months the shelter has been open. As much as we wanted to come home with a cat, I don’t think my marriage would have survived me bringing one more into the house!

The hours of operation are as follows:
Monday – Closed
Tuesday – Thursday: 10 am to 6 pm
Friday – Saturday: 10 am to 8 pm
Sunday: 10 am to 5 pm

You have such adorable lovable cats, i have a dog & a cat. Both are my babies. What a wonderful idea to have a cat cafe, would be cool if we had one here in Michigan. Great place to take the kids.

I think I’d be in trouble if I go down there. I said I wasn’t getting another cat, but it might be hard to resist once I’m there.
