Today, over 80 websites are dedicated to bringing awareness to adopting homeless pets in honor of Petfinder.com‘s 15th birthday.
Are you looking for a furry friend to add to your family? Did you know that shelter animals make amazing pets? You can find almost anything you are looking for, from purebreds to mixed breeds, puppies and kittens to mature adult dog and cats. And best yet, you won’t be supporting puppy mills or backyard breeders. Shelter pets have received their shots and have been neutered or spayed. You can literally save a life by adopting a shelter pet.
Pet overpopulation is a huge problem all over the world. There are millions of homeless pets in the US – some born and raised on the streets, some brought into the world because their mother’s owner did not have her spayed, some relinquished by their previous owners for far too many sad reasons. Did you know that between 3 and 4 million HEALTHY cats and dogs are euthanized each year because shelters are overcrowded and because their parents were not spayed or neutered? Did you know that one cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats over six years? Do you think there are homes for those 420,000 cats?
As I posted a few days ago, all of our cats have been shelter pets. And each and every one of them (there have been four) has given us amazing, unconditional love. (Ellis is kneading my tummy as I type this) They have been wonderful additions to our family, and I can’t imagine our life without them.
Will you take the pledge to help spread the word by telling at least one person about adopting shelter pets? If you can do so, you can also enter to win a Bissell Pet Hair Eraser vacuum at the Adopt the Internet info page. You can also donate your Facebook status, and spread the word on Twitter.
