“Get the Facts! Get Checked! Get Healthy!
An estimated 26 million Americans – 1 out of every 10 people – has kidney disease. Unfortunately, many don’t find out until the disease has become advanced. Because of this, there is a very high need for organ donors. In fact, of the approximately 120,000 people on the National Donor Registry, close to 100,000 of them are waiting on kidney transplants.
Coinciding with National Women’s Health Awareness Week (May 14-20) and Men’s Health Awareness Month (June), a PSA video was created featuring Paul Rodriguez and Gloria Garayua. They are the stars of the Mendez National Institute of Transplantation Foundation (MNITF) multi-award-winning patient education series Fixing Paco. The PSA educates about kidney disease prevention, and the need for organ donation.
On the website, FixingPaco.org, much information is provided about kidney disease and kidney disease prevention, how to become an organ donor, and the process of a kidney transplant and what it takes to maintain a transplanted kidney. This website is a wealth of information regarding kidney health.
Please take the time to watch this 60 second video to learn more about kidney disease prevention, kidney health, and how you can help others waiting on a kidney transplant.
