It’s no secret that when you book summer Greece holidays, you can expect scorching temperatures and endless hours of sunshine. With average highs of 30°C or more, a stay in Greece or its islands makes a pleasant change from the unpredictable weather we’re used to back home, giving the kids (and you) a perfect opportunity to enjoy some fun in the sun.
While the excitement of jetsetting off to such a warm destination will likely be building up way in advance of your departure, you shouldn’t ignore the importance of sun protection. Make sure that you pack plenty of products and items that will help you to stay healthy in the sun and keep the delicate skin of your kids as protected as possible.
Tap water in Rhodes is safe to drink but you may feel like purchasing bottled spring water anyway – mainly because it’s often much more chilled than you’d find from a tap. Keep a bottle in the fridge at all times and once it’s empty, top it back up straight away. Ensure that you and the children remain hydrated at all times – it’s amazing how quickly headaches can start in hot weather. Water will help to keep you and the brood healthy and hydrated.
Nobody likes sunstroke – it can completely ruin a holiday, so avoid it at all costs. Take plenty of suncream (high factors for kids) and make sure that they’re smothered in it at all times when out in the sun. Even if there’s cloud cover, your skin can still burn, so bear this in mind.
Waterproof suncreams are available if your kids are water babies, so that you can be safe in the knowledge that even in the pool, the cream is protecting them. Stay out of the midday sun and remain in the shade as much as possible.
Take a couple of old t shirts with you to cover up in the pool during high heat – it’s a great way of keeping shoulders and backs covered without limiting their enjoyment of the water. Invest in a UV suit for young ones, which will maintain sun protection, throughout the day.
Don’t let the heat of the sun put you off your holiday – as long as you stay protected, all you have to do is enjoy yourself!
