How to Write the Perfect Thank You

In this day and age of technology and social media, it seems that handwritten letters and cards are going the way of the home telephone. It’s sad, really, because who doesn’t love receiving something in their mailbox that ISN’T asking for money? I used to write letters almost daily to one of my friends only 10 years ago. We used to get cute stationary and write each other long letters about nothing, really. Well, hers were more interesting than mine since she was living in the Bay Area and I was stuck in Cincinnati. Even though by 2000 the Internet and e-mail had taken off, it was still nice to get something in my mailbox when I got home from work.

Love and Luck Greetings has a great line of stationary that would suit almost anyone. They have every day greeting cards for birthdays, weddings, baby, and more – with a whimsical flair.

They have a great selection of thank you cards, and have some great ideas on how to write the perfect “thank you”.

  • Hand-written: Even if you think you have the world’s worst handwriting, it’s best to send a hand-written note than an email or a phone call.  The punch of personalization will never go out of style!
  • Short and sweet:  You don’t have to write the perfect essay, a short heartfelt note is better than a perfect one that was never written.  Always remember to say thanks twice – a formal thank you in the beginning of the note and a quick thanks at the end.
  • Thank everyone: Even if your hostess did all of the work while you were there, make sure to remember the spouse and other roommates for letting you invade their space!
  • Reciprocation:  Don’t forget to mention that you would love for them to stay at your home when they are visiting your city.

Besides greeting cards, Love and Luck Greetings also sells a variety of other cute items, from bars of soap and soap dishes, to trendy onesies for your little one and party invitations. You can purchase a box of 8 thank you cards for $14.00. They are available for purchase online or in a wide variety of stores nationwide.

Love and Luck Greetings provided me with a sample of cards for the purpose of this review. The opinions in this review are mine and mine alone.

I agree with this post. It is nice to get a handwritten Thank You, but to get them you need to start by giving them.

My sister had so many people call her to compliment her on the thank you notes she had sent after her wedding. Everyone said they were simple, personal and heartfelt. I have no idea how she managed to do that with everyone else, but I felt the same way. Here’s she sent to me.

“I know you said not to bother with a thank you note but you deserve one. Thank you not only for the camp oven (which we can’t wait to use!) and watching the dogs, but also for helping me have a great time. I was thrilled to have you out on the dance floor with me. It made the whole thing perfect! Thank you so much for everything-but mostly for wearing a fuchsia dress.”

It was the last half that made it for me. I’m embarrassed to dance in front of people and hated hated hated that dress. The note was less about the gift and more about the fact that I was part of a very happy day.
