From weepy to sleepy in 3 easy steps

How to establish a baby sleep routine

Getting baby into good sleeping habits is definitely one of the biggest challenges that parents face. Dark shadows and huge yawns are common among new parents, and tell-tale signs of ‘baby lag’, a term used to describe the effects of sleepless nights caused by a new little bundle of joy.

Baby lag can lead to the little one not being the only one that’s feeling a little weepy, so the sooner you can get your baby sleeping for decent stints through the night the better for all concerned.

The good news is that getting your baby into a helpful baby sleep routine can be as easy as 1, 2, 3. Johnson’s Baby has put together a really easy to follow sleep routine that has been clinically proven to help baby sleep better and longer at night times, and is also enjoyable, relaxing and oh so simple.

Step one is a warm, calm bath time. You can use an aromatherapy bath product such as those in the Johnson’s Baby Bed time range to aid relaxation, and be sure to have a warm, soft towel to hand.

After bathtime comes baby massage using your choice of lotion, oil or cream. A wonderful bonding and relaxing experience for parent and baby, the physical and emotional benefits of baby massage are numerous.

Follow baby massage with some quiet time – perhaps enjoying a story, singing to your baby or just giving baby a quiet cuddle. This is also an ideal time to give the last feed before bed. Keep the lights and your voice low, and your baby will learn to read these cues and associate them with sleep time.

Trying this routine for just seven days can make a really positive difference, so turn your baby from weepy to sleepy in three easy steps with a simple bedtime routine.
