Did I tell you?

I’m training for a half marathon.

Pick yourself up off the floor and stop laughing. For real.

I can get why it might sound funny. I’m 100 lbs overweight (Really. I am.) and in horrible physical shape. But I have a plan, and I’m sticking to it, and with the help and support of some great friends, I will do it. Even if I have to walk over half of it.

A group of us are planning on the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland next January. Very few of us are half-marathoners. Ok, only one of us is. Many of us have never done a 5K before. I’ve WALKED a dozen or so 5Ks, but never ran one.

But this is seriously the kick in the pants I need to get moving, get fit, and get on with life.

The best part? Hopefully we can all motivate each other and we can ALL finish in the allotted time. And then we can spend the rest of our time “relaxing” at the happiest place on Earth.

I’m also working on losing those 100lbs. If I can lose at least 50 of them before the race, I will be happy, but I’d be much happier if I could lose 75.

I also hope to check something off the ol’ bucket list: staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Since I was a little girl I have dreamed of staying there, but my wallet has had other ideas.

So, stick with me as I train, eat better, move more, and get back to enjoying life. I’m so excited!

You can do it! I surprised myself surviving my first (and most likely only) half marathon. And there’s no shame in walking…I probably walked about a third of mine!

You go girl – don’t give up! Your article made me think about a blog that was featured on television not too long ago – http://www.runsforcookies.com/. To me it is not about winning the race, but rather finishing it.

That is one of my favorite blogs! I’ve been reading it for about 6 months trying to motivate myself and it finally worked! She is super inspirational.

I wanted to train for a 5K but now my PT says no running until she can get my hips in order. Then she will give me the right running plan for me.

Katie, that is so awesome! Congrats on setting your mind to do it. I could really use a buddy system here to help me with my weight problem. Sometimes it’s so hard when your kids and spouse are stuffing their faces full of cookies! I’ll be rooting for you!
